Why We Use the Guided Rafting Check-In Area for Lower Yough Trips on Summer Weekends
If you’ve ever visited Ohiopyle on a beautiful summer weekend, you already know one thing: finding a parking space can sometimes feel like its own adventure.
Between whitewater rafters, cyclists on the Great Allegheny Passage, hikers, sightseers, and families enjoying the state park, downtown Ohiopyle can get very busy on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the summer. It’s not unusual for visitors to spend valuable vacation time driving around looking for parking.
That’s one of the reasons Ohiopyle State Park created the Guided Rafting Check-In Area, located at 188 Dinner Bell Road in Ohiopyle. As part of our concessionaire agreement with Ohiopyle State Park, White Water Adventurers utilizes this location on busy summer weekends to help reduce congestion in downtown Ohiopyle while providing a smoother experience for our guests.
What You’ll Find at the Guided Rafting Check-In Area
The check-in area is located just one mile from downtown Ohiopyle and is designed specifically for guided rafting guests.
Each licensed rafting company maintains a building at this location, while the park provides:
- Ample parking
- Restrooms
- Changing facilities
- Easy access for guided rafting groups
Instead of searching for parking in town, you can arrive, park once, and start your day.
White Water Adventurers also stocks our check-in building with many of the items guests commonly need before their Lower Yough trip, including:
- Water shoes
- Eyeglass retainers
- Sunscreen
- Wetsuits (when conditions require them)
If you forget something at home, we’ve got you covered.
How to Prepare for Check-In
To make your day go as smoothly as possible, we recommend arriving dressed in the clothes you’ll be rafting in.
Leave a dry change of clothes in your vehicle for after your trip, along with any valuables that don’t belong on the river. Once you’ve checked in, simply hand your car keys to the check-in attendant, and we’ll take care of the rest.
Before arriving, be sure that all required waivers have been completed.
Why Arriving on Time Matters
One of the biggest differences between checking in at the Guided Rafting Area and being downtown is transportation.
Since you’re not located directly at the launch area, we transport guests into town for river orientation and launch. These buses operate on a schedule established by Ohiopyle State Park.
Many guests don’t realize that rafting companies cannot simply launch whenever they choose. Each outfitter is assigned specific launch times, and those time slots rotate from year to year. To keep traffic flowing on the river and ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone, companies must launch on schedule.
That’s why arriving on time and completing your paperwork ahead of time is so important. It helps keep the entire day’s operation running smoothly and ensures you don’t miss your launch.
After Your Rafting Trip
At the end of your Lower Yough adventure, we’ll bring you right back to the Guided Rafting Check-In Area.
After changing into dry clothes, we highly recommend taking a few extra minutes to drive the one mile into downtown Ohiopyle before heading home.
